Designed around your game
- True-roll putting surfaces — dense, short-pile turf for realistic green speed.
- Contours and breaks — shaped into the base: tiers, swales, and subtle undulation.
- Fringe and aprons — longer turf around the green for chipping practice.
- Bunkers — sand traps with proper liners and drainage.
- Tee boxes and chipping mats — full-swing practice in limited space.
From first sketch to first putt
- Design visit. We walk your yard, talk through your game, and sketch the green's shape, breaks, and features.
- Base shaping. The contours are built and compacted in aggregate — this is what makes breaks real.
- Turf and fringe. Putting surface goes down tight and true; fringe turf surrounds it.
- Fine-tuning. We roll, brush, and adjust speed with you before we call it done.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a backyard putting green cost?
Every green is quoted by design: size, contouring, fringe area, and features like bunkers or tee boxes. As a rough guide, most backyard greens we see quoted land between $5,000 and $15,000. A simple flat green costs far less than a contoured green with fringe and sand traps.
How big does my yard need to be?
Greens work in surprisingly small spaces — a 15×20 ft corner holds a real practice green. Most residential greens run 400–800 sq ft including fringe. During the design visit we map breaks and slopes to whatever space you have.
Will the green roll like a real course?
That's the entire design goal. Putting turf is short-pile and dense for true roll and realistic speed (stimp). Contours are shaped into the base before turf goes down, so breaks read like a real green — not a flat mat.
Can you add bunkers, fringe, or a chipping area?
Yes — that's where a custom install earns its keep. Fringe (longer turf surrounding the green), sand bunkers, and chipping aprons are designed with the green so the whole practice area plays together.
What maintenance does a putting green need?
Less than a lawn, more than a rug: periodic brushing against the grain to keep roll true, clearing leaves and debris, and infill top-ups over time. No mowing at 1/8 inch — that's the whole point.
How long do putting greens last?
A well-built residential green typically lasts 15+ years. Putting surfaces get concentrated foot traffic in small areas, so we specify denser products and extra base compaction for greens.
